The Latvian mechanical engineering and electronics industry is one of the leading exporters, accounting for around 20% of the national exports. 80% of its total output is exported. Industry boasts having global companies (one of the leading optical fibre producers in the world) and the biggest Latvian educational institution – Riga Technical University with 13,000 local and 2,000 international students.

Investors from Scandinavia, Germany, France are the most likely to enter the industry and on average invest between €5 and 20 million, acquiring existing companies or transferring their know-how to Latvia and investing in modernisation.
